Script for Key Scene
The Door
1. EXT. DRIVE WAY OF OLD HOTEL. EVENING.
PHIL and SUSAN walk up to
the old hotel arguing. Slow, unsettling music plays.
SUSAN
Are you sure this is the right place?
PHIL
Well…
(Scratching his head)
This is where the directions sent us. This has to be the hotel.
SUSAN
(Shivering)
I’m cold so let’s get inside.
PHIL
I’m sure it’s much nicer inside.
Camera follows them into the hotel
2. INT. RECEPTION OF THE HOTEL. NIGHT.
PHIL and SUSAN enter the
hotel for the first time. There is no one there but their room key is on the
desk. The music gets a bit more scary. Sounds like creaky floors are
exaggerated.
SUSAN
(Looking around)
This looks… interesting.
PHIL
I’m sure it looked a lot better in the picture.
(Checks pictures of the hotel)
SUSAN
(Sarcastically)
I’m sure it did.
PHIL
It looks like the room key is on that table.
(Points to the table)
SUSAN
(Angrily)
Well go and get it then.
PHIL
(Sighs)
Ok.
PHIL walks over to the
table. There is a close up of the room key and then his face after. The music
gets really loud for a few seconds.
PHIL
(Gasps is startled)
The music slows down again.
SUSAN
(Worried)
Are you ok? What is it?
PHIL
(Scared)
It just a coincidence but…
SUSAN
(A little impatient)
Come on.
PHIL
(Shaking his head)
It’s probably nothing…
SUSAN
(Angry)
Hurry up!
PHIL
Our room number is… 666!
SUSAN screams and there is a
dun dun dun!!!
SUSAN
(Stuttering)
I don’t think we should stay here tonight. It’s not too late and
I saw a hotel in the village and…
PHIL
(Furious)
I paid a lot of money for this so we are staying here tonight!
SUSAN
(Apologetic)
Ok. I guess it’s not that bad. It looks like our room is over
there.
SUSAN points to the stairs.
PHIL and SUSAN then walk up the stairs together.
The camera follows them up the stairs
3. INT. STAIRS OF THE HOTEL. NIGHT.
PHIL and SUSAN are going up
the stairs to their room in the hotel convincing themselves that everything
will be alright.
SUSAN
Have you seen anyone else here?
PHIL
Not yet, but everything is fine.
SUSAN
Yes. Everything is fine.
PHIL
Look, our room is just here at the top of the stairs.
(Points)
Cut
4. INT. UPSTAIRS OF THE HOTEL. NIGHT.
PHIL and SUSAN are outside
their room door.
PHIL
Well, here it is.
SUSAN
It doesn’t look like much.
PHIL
I’m sure it nicer inside.
PHIL goes took unlock the
door while SUSAN watches. PHIL gets the key out and puts it in the lock. There
is a scratching sound inside.
SUSAN
(Terrified)
What… was that?
PHIL
(Unnerved)
I’m sure it was nothing.
PHIL goes to open the door
but then it starts opening itself. PHIL moves back and stands next to SUSAN. As
the door opens PHIL and SUSAN hug each other. Once the door is completely open
the camera zooms in on the darkness. PHIL and SUSAN scream.
Fade to black
